Devotion

Personal faith, connected to church life.

A faith companion and church platform connecting personal reflection with reviewed sermon content.

Live on iOS & Android

At a glance

The need

Help church members return to Sunday's message throughout the week.

What I built

A Flutter companion, staff portal, and sermon-to-daily-reflection workflow.

My role

Product direction and AI-assisted development across mobile, web, backend, and AI controls.

Built with

Flutter + Dart
Member app with bundled content and local-first journals and prayers.
React + JavaScript
Church staff portal and publishing interface.
Python + FastAPI
Shared API with PostgreSQL and async SQLAlchemy.
Retrieval + AI
Anthropic models, ChromaDB, and MiniLM embeddings.
Media pipeline
Groq Whisper, ffmpeg, and Cloudflare R2.
Product infrastructure
Firebase Auth/FCM, Stripe, RevenueCat, and Sentry.

Engineering decisions

From a sermon to a member's phoneI connected transcription, generation, validation flags, a publishing gate, and mobile delivery.
Challenge
Generated church content needs a path from uploaded audio to staff review and member access.
Outcome
Staff can review the generated bundle; held content requires acknowledgement before publishing. The publish gate has automated tests.
Keeping scripture tied to its sourceI combined Bible retrieval, replacement of quoted verses with library text, and conditional second-model validation.
Challenge
A language model can invent or alter a verse while sounding confident.
Outcome
The guide has concrete source and validation controls, rather than a prompt alone. They do not guarantee biblical correctness.
Separating church and personal dataI built role checks and church-scoped queries, with private prayer access enforced in the query layer.
Challenge
Church staff, members, and private prayer requests need different access boundaries.
Outcome
Cross-tenant tests exercise those boundaries. Grace, the portal agent, also rechecks roles and requires confirmation before writes.
How AI is used

Different AI workflows for different jobs

Member chat uses scripture retrieval and conditional validation. Church content follows a generation-and-review workflow. Grace is a bounded tool-using portal agent with role checks and confirmation before writes. These controls are implemented, but validation is not universal and does not guarantee correct or safe output.

My contribution

Product direction and AI-assisted development across the Flutter app, React church portal, FastAPI backend, data model, AI workflows, billing, and testing.

Where it stands

Available on the App Store and Google Play.

The member app is live on iOS and Android, alongside the connected church portal and backend.

Next step

Continue improving and validating the full sermon-to-member workflow across mobile, web, and backend.
